The article analyzes the leisure transformation processes in the port cities of Northern Azov at the beginning of the 20th century. This period witnessed significant societal changes in both technological and cultural spheres, which were reflected in the forms of entertainment and leisure. The article thoroughly examines the dynamics of changes in the forms and content of entertainment, focusing on the impact of modernization processes on the traditional leisure culture of urban communities. The issue of creating and developing cinemas emerges as particularly important in this context, as cinema itself became a symbol of technological progress and an innovative approach to entertainment. In examining the transformation of leisure, the authors meticulously investigate the role of local self-government bodies in shaping the festive space of cities, which creates a special atmosphere for recreational events. Special attention is paid to the interaction between traditional and new forms of entertainment in the sociocultural space, reflecting profound social and cultural changes occurring in the region. Furthermore, the article explores the economic dynamics of urban life at the beginning of the 20th century through the lens of changes in the entertainment industry and cultural consumption. The development of the film industry and the increase in the number of cinemas in the cities of Northern Azov testify to the active evolution of the entertainment sector and changes in the consumer approach of residents. This study proposes to analyze the role of cinema in shaping urban space, social practices, and cultural norms during that period. Considering the specificity of port cities as centers of economic and cultural exchange, the research aims to uncover how cinemas became a significant element of this cultural dynamic. Thus, in the specific context of Northern Azov port cities, the analysis of leisure transformation becomes key to understanding the broader context of sociocultural changes that took place in these regions during a period of intensive technological and cultural development.
