MIGRATION PROCESSES AS A FACTOR IN UKRAINE’S DEMOGRAPHIC AND CULTURAL TRANSFORMATIONS AMIDST WARTIME CHALLENGES

Abstract

The article examines the impact of contemporary migration processes on the demographic and cultural transformations of Ukrainian society amidst the full-scale war. It establishes that the large-scale forced displacement of the population has become not only a humanitarian consequence of armed aggression but also a decisive factor driving structural changes in population size, age and gender composition, territorial distribution, the state of human capital, and the sociocultural organization of Ukrainian society. The interrelationship between external migration, internal displacement, demographic aging, declining birth rates, and the contraction of labor potential is analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the cultural dimension of migration, specifically the preservation of Ukrainian national identity abroad, the role of Ukrainian communities in host countries, linguistic and cultural adaptation, and the formation of new transnational sociocultural ties. The key directions of state policy regarding the minimization of the negative demographic consequences of migration, the support of the cultural identity of Ukrainians abroad, and the creation of conditions for the voluntary return of citizens have been defined. The necessity of shifting from a predominantly crisis-oriented response to migration processes toward a comprehensive policy of demographic and sociocultural resilience for Ukraine has been substantiated.
