THE RELEVANCE OF CORDOCENTRISM TRADITIONS IN UKRAINIAN SOCIETY (TO THE 300’TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BIRTH OF H.S. SKOVORODA)

Abstract

The article examines one of the traditional directions of Ukrainian philosophy, reviews the origins of philosophical teaching, traces the tradition of the formation of the cult of the heart in oral folk art, observes the appeal to the image of the heart in the annalistic and religious tradition of the princely era, investigates the creation of the symbolic meaning of the image of the heart as a spirit in Ukrainian literature, the peculiarities of its interpretations by various representatives of domestic philosophical thought during the 19’th century are considered (M. Gogol, P. Kulish, G. Skovoroda, T. Shevchenko, P. Yurkevich and others). A parallel is also drawn with world studies of the science of the heart, in particular by ancient philosophers (Plato, Philo, Chrysippus), European mystical scientists (V. Weigel, J. Eckhart, H. Suzo, J. Tavler), romantics (J. Hamann, J. Herder, F. Schleiermacher, F. Jacobi), German philosophers (G. Hegel, I. Kant and others), the American pragmatist C. Peirce and others. The author analyzes the ways of using motifs of the “philosophy of the heart” in fiction, in particular in the work of Taras Shevchenko, traces the frequency of use of the lexeme “heart” and its derivatives in the poet’s poetic works. The origin of the very term “philosophy of the heart” and its interpretation in modern science are noted. The article also draws attention to the study of Ukrainian cordocentrism by two domestic philosophical schools – psychological and cultural, which investigate this phenomenon using different methods. The author of the article draws attention to the relevance of the ideas of cordocentrism in the modern world, in particular in modern education and educational traditions. The practical significance of this study is justified by the possibility of using its results at lectures and seminars on philosophy, cultural studies, literature, etc.
