THE PRINCIPLE OF HISTORICISM IN CINEMA: WORLD AND UKRAINIAN CONTEXT

This scientific study is devoted to the consideration of the principle of historicism – one of the main principles of research applied in various fields and scientific directions. The principle of historicism in cinematography is often implemented in different ways. Sometimes, it works only to create the atmosphere necessary for the film, sometimes – to demonstrate the plot, as close as possible to real historical events. The context of historicism can refer to various aspects, for example, the use of famous historical figures in the plot to reflect their real life, or for the author's interpretation of them, the use of a historical era to demonstrate the author's plot, which is more legendary, but has historical elements. From the point of view of revealing the principle of historicism, in this article, foreign and Ukrainian historical films are given and analyzed, various aspects of the application of this principle in such films were considered. The author conducted a comparative analysis of the principle of historicism in films that claim more and less historicity, the difference in such application and feasibility in the context of historicity. The author analyzed the following films – “Bonnie and Clyde” (1967), “King Arthur” (2004), "Cool 1918" (2020), “Khaitarma” (2013), as well as “Cyborgs” (2017) and “Ilovaisk 2014” : Battalion “Donbass” (2019). As a result of the study, conclusions were drawn, which indicate that the principle of historicism in historical cinematography, which refers to the reflection of real historical events, should be applied, taking into account the consultations of historians and the processing of historical documents, work with archives, or the testimonies of people who participated in those or other historical events. The author emphasizes the great possibilities of Ukrainian historical cinema in demonstrating the history of Ukraine and the importance of appropriate application of the principle of historicism in multi-genre game projects. Also, the author emphasizes the importance of the creation of Ukrainian historical cinema by Ukrainian directors.
